FOUNDATIONS OF DRAWING — A 5-Week Beginner’s Program

Learn to draw with me! I've been working as an illustrator professionally for 15 years and can teach you how to draw and develop your work as an artist/illustrator with simple steps and helpful feedback. Often what's most useful is not another online tutorial but actual human 1:1 support on your learning journey!

Learn the core skills that make drawing click: composition, observation, value, and confident mark-making, and you'll be on your way to being a better artist in no time.

The course consists of 5x 1 hour Video Calls with me where I'll coach you through learning to draw, from wherever you are starting from.

1. Composition & Thumbnails
   How to think like an illustrator. Quick sketching to simplify any scene and create the perfect starting point for an artwork. + homework set for the following week.
   
2. Drawing Basics: Shape & Form
   Understanding the building blocks of all drawing — shape, proportion, and construction. + homework set for the following week.
   
3. Tone & Values
   The key to depth, clarity, and believable drawings. + homework set for the following week.
   
4. Observation Techniques
   Ways of seeing: contour drawing, negative space, sighting, and accuracy tools. + homework set for the following week.
   
5. Drawing Together: Final Piece
   We build one finished drawing using all the skills above. Review what we've learned, and touch on anything final questions. + moving forward tasks set with areas to keep working on.

Who it’s for: Complete beginners / rusty artists.

What You’ll Have at the End

• An understanding of the fundamentals of drawing, and the tools and knowledge to draw with confidence.
• Experience in deciding what to draw and how to create an interesting artwork.
• The foundations of design, applicable in all forms of drawing/painting, - the basis of your journey as an artist. You'll be using these principles for the rest of your journey and in this program, you'll learn everything you need to form that foundation.
• A finished artwork you'll be able to use in your folio and show off to clients/followers
• A repeatable process you can use forever

Upon booking we'll arrange a first call and then subsequent calls can follow a weekly time or be arranged as you see fit.
