What do you do when work goes quiet?
How do you best use your time as an artist when you aren’t busy?
How do you reach new clients and maintain a career as an artist through the ups and downs?

It feels harder than ever to make a living as an artist. A lot is changing at the moment, and it can be tough to find new avenues for work or build up momentum. Many people I’ve spoken to are experiencing the same thing. And while busy periods and quiet patches are a normal part of freelance life, it never feels great to be in a quiet patch.

But on the flip side, there’s always something you can do to keep growing as an artist — and more and more avenues are opening up to explore.

After some reflection during a recent quiet patch of my own, I started making a few changes to my portfolio, how I present my work, and the way I operate as a freelancer day to day. Taking small, proactive steps has helped me feel more focused and positive — even without a full calendar.

So, I’ve put together a short, easy-to-follow course with practical steps you can take to get your work moving again. These are things that have helped me — and I hope they’ll help you too. This isn’t about starting from scratch. It’s about evolving — building on what you already have, refreshing your approach, and maybe even opening up a few new paths along the way.

We’ll cover the fundamentals: simplifying your online presence, refreshing your website, streamlining your workflow, learning new things, and exploring fresh opportunities — all in a way that feels manageable, not overwhelming.

If you’re feeling a bit stuck, or just ready to sharpen things up, join me for this mini course — and take a few practical steps toward a smoother, more sustainable working life.

See you there!

After each video in this short course, there are actionable steps you are encouraged to take. Take as many of these pointers as seem useful to you and your business, and implement them in your own work. I'm sure you'll agree that working on these things makes a difference. There's a lot of things that are outside of our control, but the one thing you can control is how you present yourself as an artist to the market and so it's really worth doing an audit of everything in this course. I've found these actions to be hugely beneficial in bringing in work for me as an illustrator and keeping my portfolio feeling fresh and evolving.

I look forward to seeing what you create. Leave a comment or review and I'll get back to you :)
